Zadar Walls
Zadar Walls
PLACE: Zadar, Croatia YEAR: 2015

A magnificent work of great historical and cultural value.

The walls of Zara were built by the Venetian Republic in the i6th century to protect the sea routes and ports of the Adriatic from attacks by the Turks, who were dominating the Balkans at the time. Their great historical and aesthetic value has been recognized in recent years by UNESCO, which has included them on the list of World Heritage sites along with all the Venetian defense works dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. It was therefore a great honor for Platek to have had the opportunity to illuminate about 400 meters of the walls - that is the part of the fortification with the pedestrian path at the port. To create a smooth and effective lighting effect, 220 recessed floor floodlights were used. The light, with a warm white 3000K color, embellishes this important architecture work, which boasts great structural grandeur and excellent preservation. In particular, the tower of the walls, with the typical sculpture of the winged lion - the symbol of the Republic of Venice - is skillfully enhanced by Platek’s lighting systems. The type of installation was guided by two intentions: to make the work clearly visible and enjoyable from afar, and to allow tourists to easily walk along it. The recessed lighting therefore also plays the role of a marker for the pathway at the foot of the walls.
